It at first you don't succeed, well, so much for skydiving
AAD: Automatic Activation Device. A backup device supposed to start the opening sequence (usually the reserve canopy) when a skydiver is still in freefall below the preset activation altitude.
AFF: Accelerated Freefall. A specific training method of training.
APF: Australian Parachuting Association.
Audible / Ditter: are audible altimeters that sound beeps at various altitudes.
Belly flying: a name for the flat flying orientation in freefall
BOC: Bottom of Container
Container: usually used to refer to the container that the parachute is packed into.
CRW: canopy relative work - refers to formation canopy flying
Currency: refers to how long it was since your last jump
Cut Away: The action of releasing the main parachute in an emergency
Cypres: a widely used AAD
DZ: Drop Zone. The place where skydivers skydive. Can be not much more than a field where an aircraft can take off and land, or something much bigger with a gym, a sauna, a swimming pool, a restaurant, bunk houses and an hotel.
Flare: The action of braking and slowing the parachute before landing
Freeflying: not Belly flying, but includes: sitflying, standflying and headdown amongst other positions.
Harness: usually refers to the webbing part of the parachute system
PLF: Parachute Landing Fall used for emergengy landings to absorb the impact force.
Rig: skydiving equipment. The assembly of a harness/container, a main canopy and a reserve canopy.
RSL: Reserve Static Line which pulls the reserve pin after a cut-away
RW: relative work - referring to skydivers moving relative to each other in freefall
SL: Static Line. A specific training method of training.
Spotting: looking out of the aircraft to determine the best place to exit the aircraft
Swoop: A prolonged landing in a flat glide
Throw out: a type of deployment
Tandem: two skydivers jumping together. The passenger's harness is hooked to the Jumpmaster harness. This type of jumps can be used as a specific method of training.
USPA: United State Parachute Association.
Wind sock: a wind direction indicator
