This country looks like hell for skydivers. The airspace is for the exclusive use of the very busy international airport, and, of course, the army. So, no sports skydiving in Singapore. There used to be a drop zone here but it had to close down a long time ago when the traffic of the international airport became really heavy.
To make things worse, beer is incredibly expensive and weird behavior can be severely punished. However, there is an active skydiving community. There is even a real business, "Skydive Adventure", running a drop zone, mainly for tandems and students, in Malaysia. Apart from this, there is a significant number of skydivers, some of them with impressive qualifications and ratings. Many of these fun jumpers are involved in some way in the development of "Skydive Asia".
So, no jumps in Singapore, but there is still some life. Frequent skydivers meetings, sometimes just for the beer and the fun, sometimes for more structures actions, like safety and training meetings, planning and organizing future events, or for actions to promote the sport. Of course, as we are a very small community of people otherwise quite busy with their jobs, things tend to move slowly. However, we have fun and this is the important point.
No Jumps in Singapore doesn't mean no jumps for skydivers in Singapore! As our island is quite close from Indonesia and Malaysia , it's not a big deal to visit our neighbours for skydiving. Of course, these trips are usually not organized every week-end, but we usually manage to go skydiving once or twice a month, depending on the availability of everyone. Once in a while, some of us organize trips a bit further, like Australia. When we really miss the atmosphere of a huge and busy drop zone, our only choice is to travel much further, to Europe or the USA.
Of course, everybody is welcome to join us. It will be our most extreme pleasure to jump with you in the Asian Blue Skyes, or, just to meet you in Singapore.
