Safety briefing: DON'T DIE!

Overview

Skydiving is one of these sports where there are endless possibilities to acquire new skills and to improve existing ones. Training in skydiving is nothing like exercises to improve fitness or stamina (though it might help), it is more about, first understanding the dynamics of the activity, then practicing the drills on the ground to get a basic idea, and finally, doing the real thing in the air.

The major difficulty is that the time available to actually practice the real thing is usually very short. Hence the importance of a good preparation and a good debriefing. Knowing and understanding what to do is one thing. Knowing and understanding what was wrong is another. A good preparation will include a description of the drills, as many applications on the ground and the anticipation of the wrong things to do. A good debriefing will include positive critics and explanations of what went well. If necessary, it will also highlight what went wrong, with the reasons of the errors and corrective drills.

Proper training requires qualified coaches. Unfortunately, there are very few. So, on these pages we will try to give some directions for an appropriate training.

Relative work

This is one of the most popular disciplines, so there are several good opportunities to find coaches locally, at least for decent 4 way. Bigger formations can be organized, but the major limitation is the size of the aircraft (local pilots are not used to fly in groups.

A very good training tool is a vertical tunnel. We are lucky: we can use one, as good as american ones, at a much lower price. If you are interrested in training camps in the wind tunnel, contact us.

Free fly

A recent addition in South-East Asia, there are no real coaches available. However, there are more and more experienced sitflyers able to provide an acceptable briefing and debriefing with video, for the first few jumps.

Canopy control

This covers many different disciplines. For basic flight, CRW and accuracy, there are many competitors who will be happy to train newcomers. For blade running and high performances canopies, there is no way to learn this safely in the area.
